About

Hi, I’m Bryony – the voice behind Somewhere After the Detour.

I’ve been exploring new places since my early twenties, starting with city breaks during university and trips across Europe. What began as short getaways quickly turned into something bigger – a strong passion for exploring the world which led me to backpack through Southeast Asia to now calling Australia home.

I’m currently based in Melbourne, where I balance everyday life with a love for travel. Here, I share everything from Melbourne travel ideas, including day trips in nature and the best food and coffee spots, to help you experience the city beyond the obvious.

An advocate for the outdoors and being in nature, you’ll usually find me on the road trip around Australia, and discovering the best of camping Australia in a 4WD with my boyfriend – from off-grid forest camps to coastal drives and everything in between. I also still make time for the occasional overseas adventure when I can.

I’m all about budget-friendly travel with the odd treat, making the most out of every destination without missing the experiences that make it special. Whether it’s a hidden camping spot, a must-see location, or a local food find, I’m always on the lookout for the best things to do.

I’m also a conscious traveller and a big foodie, navigating a mostly vegetarian and gluten-free lifestyle while exploring different cultures and cuisines along the way.

Whether you’re mapping out an unforgettable Australia road trip, searching for your next vegetarian dinner, or searching for the top places for camping Australia, you’ll find practical guides, honest tips, and real experiences here.

Somewhere After the Detour is all about helping you travel smarter, see more, and make the most of every journey, from city breaks to campfires, to detours worth taking.
